Day one started bright and early, waking up at 4 a.m was rather exhausting, yet with the adventures of day one on the horizon it wasn't that bad. We left a cloudy Comox before the sun rose and headed to the ferry terminal where we received the first compliment on how "awesome" the Land Cruiser looked. A $12 breakfast, an offroad magazine and some pictures and we were on the mainland.
Heading straight north along the beautiful Sea to Sky Highway we made a quick stop at Nairn Falls beside Green River. As the marked 1.5km turned out to be a exhausting 3km hike, we arrived at the thundering water falls. After some locals reminded us to be careful on the rocks (like we were little kids) and commenting on our choice of shoes (flip flops) we got the pictures we wanted and headed back and hit the road. Climbing out of Pemberton was beautiful and was accomplished in typical tourist RV fashion, to max out the truck at 50km/h up the steep hill while the marked speed limit was 80km/h. The next pit stop was at Joffre Lakes Provincial Park where we made the mistake of not applying bug spray and trekking into the bush curiously. Arriving at the lake we got our first nasty introduction to the flying critters which caused us to quickly take some pictures and rush back to the truck with multiple itchy war wounds.
Travelling through the lush green forest before Lillooet where the scenery quickly changed to desert and the sun finally came out. Although it was only 11:00 am it felt like we had been at it all day, music blaring and well thats when our amazing kareoke skills began to surface. A beautiful afternoon spent meandering through the interior and then the better half of the day was gone. After wildly running around the outskirts of Clinton we began looking for a campsite, it was time to set up camp.
Of course free is what we were looking for, since we have all our ammenities with us and that was difficult to find since we had no maps, other than for Alaska. After giving up and continuing our journey north we had the brilliant idea to use the WiFi on my phone to find some nearby camping spots. Heading through 70 Mile House we were googling locations on the go and felt like a pair of computer nerds on an adventure for a new home. Finally we came across the Green Lake campsite where we gave up on free camping and found a spot for $16. Curious neighbours have also requested a tour of our expedition vehicle and were amazed at the convenience of the Roof Top Tent. It seems it will get its first test tonight as there are black clouds rolling on the horizon, and with a Citronella candle burning beside me I am counting down the hours before the rain hits.
We will be uploading pictures later since Ricki's card does not fit into my computer and I left mine in the home computer. Ricki is researching tomorrows scenery and campsite so we don't spend another 4 hours trying to find a crappy campsite with no firewood to burn...Until Ricki sends me out to get some ... (laughing)
